Meet Our Team

David R. Powers, M.D.
As managing partner of Kidney & Hypertension Associates, Dr. David Powers leads a team of 4 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners and a support staff of 15 people. Dr. Powers founded Kidney & Hypertension Associates in 2000 and brings over 30 years of experience as a nephrologist. Dr. Powers did his training at the University of California, Irvine where he received his MD degree and completed residency and nephrology fellowship training. He later was a Professor at UC Irvine and the Assistant Director of Medicine at the University Medical Center before coming to LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans in 1994. Dr. Powers is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is accepting new and existing patients with all forms of kidney diseases.

Brandon K. Bean, M.D.
Dr. Bean is a native of Kentwood, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate training at Mississippi College and did his Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is accepting new and existing patients with all forms of kidney diseases.

Jon W. Mares, D.O.
Dr. Mares did his Internal Medicine training at the University of Louisville and his Nephrology fellowship at Dartmouth. He came to KHA from South Carolina where he was in private practice. He took a hiatus from his Nephrology practice to take a Hypertension fellowship with one of the international leaders in hypertension, Dr. George Bakris, at the University of Chicago. Dr. Mares is Board certified in Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine. Dr. Mares is accepting new patients in Nephrology and Hypertension.

Alex T. Richard, M.D.
Dr. Richard is from Louisiana and he and his family reside in Covington. Dr. Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude distinction. He did his Internal Medicine residency and completed his Nephrology and Hypertension fellowship at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He completed his training in July 2021, and we were lucky enough to recruit him to join our group. Dr. Richard is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He is accepting new patients in Nephrology and Hypertension.

Kayla Glover, APRN, FNP-C
Kayla received her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of South Alabama in 2018. Prior to that, Kayla worked for 11 years as a Registered Nurse, including 5 years in the ICU, and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA in 2008.

Anna Price, APRN, FNP
Anna is a family nurse practitioner who came to KHA after along and distinguished nursing career at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. Anna has been a registered nurse since 2006 and has experience in delivering excellent nursing care to patients in both medical and surgical ICUs as well as in the emergency department. Anna received her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge in 2021. The KHA family is extremely honored to have a nurse practitioner with Anna’s experience and compassionate personality with our practice.

Brittany Zimmer, APRN, CNP
Brittany is our newest nurse practitioner but comes to KHA after several years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Brittany is unique in that her training was in hospital-focused medicine and she obtained her master’s degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Northwestern State University in Shreveport, LA. She has extensive experience as a nurse practitioner in nephrology and hospital medicine at hospitals in New Orleans and on the Northshore. She has an extremely strong background in the care of patients with kidney disease as well as those with general medical illnesses. We are excited about her coming to our group.
