Meet Our Team

In Memoriam of our founder Dr. Powers who founded Kidney & Hypertension Associates in 2000 he brought over 30 years of experience as a nephrologist.  Dr. Powers did his training at the University of California, Irvine where he received his MD degree and completed residency and nephrology fellowship training. He later was a Professor at UC Irvine and the Assistant Director of Medicine at the University Medical Center before coming to LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans in 1994. Dr. Powers was board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

We are proud to welcome Dr. Imran Shuja to Kidney and Hypertension Associates. Dr. Shuja received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University. He did his Internal Medicine training at Louisiana State University, Lafayette and his Nephrology fellowship at Louisiana State University, New Orleans. Dr. Shuja is Board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. He is accepting new patients and existing patients with all forms of kidney diseases.

Dr. Bennett is a native of Alexandria, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate training at Southeastern University and did his training at LSU Medical School. He did his Fellowship in Nephrology at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is accepting new and existing patients with all forms of kidney diseases.

Brenda joined Kidney & Hypertension Associates in July, 2013. Brenda earned her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in 1998 and began practicing at St. Tammany Parish Hospital (STPH) as a Registered Nurse. After a decade of providing compassionate nursing care for patients at STPH, Brenda returned to SLU and obtained a master’s degree in Advanced Practice Registered Nursing in 2010. She is Board Certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and a life-long resident of Covington, Louisiana. Brenda works very closely with the physicians of Kidney & Hypertension Associates while providing advanced practice nursing care to patients in communities near her home town.
